Thermal Printer Paper: Is it Recyclable?

Thermal paper rolls have been around for over 50 years. Over that time, thermal paper has been utilized for POS receipts, labels, tickets, and even medical charts. It’s a highly-effective, very reliable, and extremely versatile paper source that grew in popularity in the 1970s.

The BPA and other phenols found in thermal paper aren’t removed during the recycling process. This means they’ll eventually find their way into the newly-recycled paper or recycled products. Since BPA and other phenols are harmful to the body, recycling and reusing it is just as harmful.

Even worse, composting BPA-coated paper will eventually dump those dangerous chemicals into the environment, our water supply, and much more. This not only harms the human body, but all those wonderful animals that we share this vulnerable planet with. In short, it’s an environmentalist's worst nightmare.
